Rebel Mother Bang Head Here

I had been summoned to school this morning regarding the scissor incident with Olly, that happened on Wednesday. Apparently my son Olly is now considered as some sort of scissor-wielding maniac that is considered by other parents as a threat to the school and society at large.… Continue

tracy_tp Ruby the therapeutic dog

Ruby is a Yorkshire terrier. We have had her since December and she is now 6 months old. I got her for 2 reasons. 1. company for me when the kids are staying at their dads some weekends and just company in general and 2. for Sam...so she is also a therapeutic dog. I thought it would help Sam to show emotions, if that's the right phrase...I'm not sure, it makes him sound Vulcan!! Put it this way if I want a cuddle from him or a kiss I literally have to pin him down and hold on to him for dear… Continue

tracy_tp What the Dr said...not alot!!

Just a quick update on the trip to the Doctors. Basically he said I have to turn " the Dark " into a positive so that Sam is no longer scared of the dark. Well, blow me....what an insight I would never had thought of that!! (sorry....sarcasm!) I asked him about a referral to sort out the dark and anxiety issues, it was ignored. I have to make the dark fun for Sam so that it no longer scares him. Well I hardly sit there going " oh yes Sam being in the dark is very scary so I'm not surprised you… Continue

tracy_tp Night anixety....Lets see what the Dr says

I'm taking Sam to the Doctors tomorrow. I never take him to see the GP about his autism, because, to be honest I rarely have to see anyone. Its not a curable disease or something that can be "treated" with medication so I just carry on and deal with what ever is thrown at me. However Ive decided to take him because I want a referral to the children's mental health team. Why do I want this? Because Sam is developing what I call Night anxiety (there probably is a technical term but I prefer my ow… Continue

tracy_tp Going to the shop....and why. (taken from my blog)

Ive been trying to persuade Sam to go to the shop, which is only 2 minutes away, for ages now. He wont go. He said he is too scared to go on his own....which is fair enough. Friday afternoon he went with his friends to the shop to get something, a cap gun. Then Saturday morning he got up and shouted "is the shop open?" I said yes, and the next thing i know he is dressed and running around saying hes going down the shop to get some caps for this toy gun. After a manic few minutes of me trying to… Continue

Nancy Douglas Update on Dani

Dani is doing fantastic in her Day Hab program. Those assisting her all know sign language and she loves meeting all the clientele. Her teacher, Loretta, is so kind. She hurt her foot and has to wear a walking boot, something Dani is a bit obsessed over. Every time she refers to her teacher she signs the word "pain." (I am a bit obsessive about some things too I suppose. Shoes and sandals yes, walking boots...not so much. To each his/her own.)Continue

Pam Griffin Counting Blessings

I sat in the chemist today, waiting for my prescription. Sitting opposite me were two young boys, probably not much older than my grandson, Jake (6), a year or two at the most. They sat quietly, without fidgeting, without getting up, without grumbling, whilst their dad waited for his prescription. I watched them and thought 'Wouldn't it be lovely if we could take Jake into a shop and he would behave like they are'? But then, I thought about my lovely grandson. Yes, he may go crazy in shops...h… Continue

Nancy Douglas Dani's Day at Work!

Our daughter, Dani (age 20), has been waiting for over a year to start working. The first place we looked into didn't work out and it's a good thing because we found one much more suited for her needs. She will be learning to cook, fold laundry, color, write, and do all sorts of fun… Continue
